Paintings by Steve Mercer

Steve's emphasis on technical accuracy brings out the natural beauty of space and the objects which surround us from afar. He attempts to bring these distant objects closer to home by recreating them to appear as if the veiwer were actually there, perhaps looking out the window of a nearby spacecraft. His work is shown in science centers and in science exhibits that travel nationwide.

These murals are primarily acrylic on large-format Masonite (two to six feet on a side). Airbrushes are used for delicate modeling and shading, while conventional brushes are used for texturing. The electronic versions you see here were made by taking photographs of the paintings, then transfering the images to a Kodak Master Photo CD.
